Frequently Asked Questions

SEM, or the Single Enclosure Module, is a comprehensive solution designed to monitor the performance and condition of reciprocating gas-compressors. Its primary purpose is to provide real-time insights into compressor operations, enabling proactive maintenance, optimizing efficiency, and minimizing downtime.

SEM works by continuously monitoring various parameters of gas-compressors, such as vibration, pressure, and rod-drop, using a network of sensors. From these sensors SEM collects crankshaft referenced waveforms which are cycle-synchronized and transmit it to the IMBU portal for analysis. Through a sophisticated physics based digital twin and a historical twin, SEM evaluates the collected data to assess the performance and condition of the compressor. Any deviations from normal operating parameters are flagged, triggering alerts for maintenance or intervention as needed. Additionally, SEM can provide insights into trends and patterns over time, allowing for predictive maintenance and optimization of compressor operations.

SEM provides value in any industry that utilizes reciprocating gas compressors. This includes industries such as refineries, petrochemical plants, downstream oil and gas facilities, as well as applications like gas compression on LNG carriers. The monitoring and optimization capabilities of SEM are particularly beneficial in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of these critical compressor systems across various sectors.

  1. Advanced Analytics: SEM harnesses advanced analytics, including both the physics-based digital twin and the historical twin, to provide actionable insights for optimizing the operational efficiency of any reciprocating compressor.

  2. Easy and Low-Cost Installation: SEM offers effortless and cost-effective installation as all components can be conveniently installed in the hazardous area next to the compressor set, eliminating the need for complex and expensive wiring.

  3. Enhanced Security: SEM ensures the utmost security with its air-gap architecture, which effectively separates it from customer site systems such as SCADA and DCS. This secure solution minimizes the risk of unauthorized access and cyber threats.

Detailed technical specifications for SEM are available in the accompanying specification sheet found here

The installation pole, which comes with anchor bolts included, can be conveniently positioned next to the compressor set. A 24VDC or 110VAC/230VAC power supply needs to be connected. All sensors and the key phasor are to be connected according to the instructions provided in the installation manual. Following the installation of sensors, wire connections, and system configuration, a thorough test will be conducted to ensure the proper functioning of all sensors.

Yes, training is typically recommended to ensure operators are proficient in operating SEM effectively. This training covers various aspects, including:

  1. Familiarization with SEM Components: Operators learn about the different components of SEM and their functions, including sensors, monitoring equipment, and data analysis software.

  2. Alert Handling: Operators are trained on how to respond to alerts generated by SEM, including troubleshooting and taking appropriate action to address issues.

  3. Maintenance Procedures: Training includes guidance on routine maintenance tasks, such as system checks and software updates, to ensure SEM operates optimally.

  4. Data Interpretation: Operators learn how to interpret SEM data and analytics to identify trends, patterns, and potential issues, enabling proactive maintenance and optimization of compressor operations.

Overall, training equips operators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively utilize SEM for monitoring and optimizing compressor performance.

For large compressor-fleet operators, we offer a demo program to facilitate the testing and evaluation of SEM. This program allows you to experience the functionality and benefits of SEM firsthand before committing.

SEM is tailored for cost-effective monitoring of compressor sets to aid end-users in optimizing operational efficiencies. Unlike systems that trigger automatic shutdowns for compressor protection, SEM prioritizes proactive maintenance and performance optimization. By continuously monitoring key parameters and providing real-time analytics, SEM empowers operators to make informed decisions to enhance efficiency and minimize downtime.

SEM does not issue a shutdown.

No, SEM does not carry any SIL certification.
